This has been inspired by Adam & Eve from the Book of Genesis. The serpent, more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made, tempts the woman to eat "of the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden". Historically, Serpentines represent fertility or a creative life force. Serpents are connected with renewal or regeneration. This trait is connected with the practice of snakes of shedding their old skin and growing a new one.
